New Let The Players Play campaign promoting positive spectator behaviour

“We want players of all ages and abilities to feel comfortable”
“While the behaviour of spectators at volleyball events is overwhelmingly positive and supportive, there have been increasing instances of that behaviour dropping below what is expected,” said Laura Allcoat, Volleyball England Strategic Manager for Safeguarding and Membership.
“The Let The Players Play campaign aims to act as a reminder of the key things people should bear in mind when they go to watch a game. Sport evokes passion and strong feelings, but we would urge people to take a breath and think about the implications of what they say and shout.
“We want players of all ages and abilities to feel comfortable, supported and able to show the best version of themselves, rather than feeling it is not an environment they relish being in and it inhibits their ongoing development.”
Reporting poor behaviour
Any allegations of poor behaviour – whether by players, coaches, officials, or spectators – should be reported immediately to the event lead.
If appropriate, the matter can then be followed up by Volleyball England, ensuring issues are managed consistently and fairly across all volleyball events.
